Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert time between time zones?
Enter the date and time you want to convert, select the source time zone (the one you know), and select the target time zone (the one you want to convert to). The converted time appears instantly.
What is UTC and how is it different from GMT?
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the primary time standard by which the world regulates time. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is a time zone based on the prime meridian. For most practical purposes they are the same, but UTC is the modern scientific standard and does not observe Daylight Saving Time.
Why are there time zones?
Time zones exist because the Earth rotates 360° over 24 hours, meaning different locations experience midday at different times. Time zones allow clocks to reflect the actual position of the sun. There are 24 main time zones, each roughly 1 hour apart, though many countries use half-hour or quarter-hour offsets.
Does the tool handle Daylight Saving Time?
Yes. Our converter uses the IANA time zone database (the same used by your operating system) which includes all historical and current Daylight Saving Time rules. So converting a date in summer vs. winter will automatically account for DST shifts.
